The Government of Kerala has launched a new programme on ‘Medical Care for Victims of Gender Based Violence/Social Abuses’ in selected institutions of 14 districts, funded by State Plan Fund. For coordinating the activities and counselling of cases one female Coordinator/Counsellor is appointed in each GBV Centre. The main objective of this centre is to provide counselling to the victims of GBV and strengthen the capacity of health care providers in the hospital and also district to respond to survivors of violence against women. This project is a new intervention by Government of Kerala in association with NRHM. Government of Kerala has earmarked Rs.50 lakhs for the management of gender issues for 2009-10 for 14 districts. IEC activities and appointment of GBV Coordinators/Female Counselors are done through NRHM. |
